The Chair of Languages and Literature of Far East
The Chair of Far Eastern Languages and Literature under the Faculty of Oriental Studies has been established on 4 November 2004 as per the decree R-75 of the Baku State University. Experts in three specialities are trained in the chair currently.

Due to the lack of national cadre potential with minimum necessary skill and knowledge level in the chair, Korean language and literature are taught by four Korean nationals and one national cadre, Chinese language and literature by four PRC nationals and one national cadre, Japanese language and literature by five national cadres and one Japanese cadre.

Since the establishment of the chair , it is headed by doctor of philological sciences , professor Ogtay Babali oglu Jalilbayli. He is a graduate of the Institute of Construction Engineering of Azerbaijan (at present Azerbaijan Architecture and Construction University) and professor, with the doctorship thesis on «Structure and semantics of verbs in the context of Altaistics» (on the materials of Japanese -Azerbaijani languages)
During classes , the staff of the chair avail themselves of the manuals prepared in Japan, PRC and Korea , in line with the existing international standards and lingophonic rooms.
Professor O.B. Jalilbayli is the first University staff member to have been on a scientific training/practice to Japan after the restoration of the independence Republic of Azerbaijan. He has been in Japan in 1992-1994.
Our students attend various short and long-term training courses in Japan, PRC and Korea. At the moment , 17 students are in Japan on one year and six-week courses, 9 students in PRC on one year course, 3 students on five-year course and 1 student at Master's degree programme. 3 students are currently studying in Korea University.
