RUFAT ASHRAF RUSTAMOV

Orientalist

Rufat Rustamov was born on 1 November 1945. In 1964, he entered  Azerbaijan State University, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Turkish Philology Section. From 1964-1967, he did military service. In 1967, he continued his education. In 1972-1973, he was employed as a translator in the Turkish Republic. He graduated from Azerbaijan State University in 1973. The same year Rufat Rustamov took a job as a laboratory assistant at the university`s Department of Near Eastern Languages. He was promoted to the position of deputy faculty dean. In 1976, he did his thesis at the Department of Near Eastern Languages, obtaining a PhD degree in 1981 and defending a ScD thesis in 1998. He was made a professor in 2003. He has chaired the Department of Turkish Philology, Baku State University, since 1990.  Rufat Rustamov`s major research area is Turkish language. He has published over 80 papers, nine handbooks and two books. He has supervised 13 PhD students to completion.

He has been a member of the Thesis Defence Council, Institute of Linguistics  named after Nasimi, ANAS, since 1998. He sits on the scientific councils of Baku State University and the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

For his fruitful scientific and pedagogic activity, professor Rustamov received certificates of recognition from BSU, and in 2009 was awarded “Leading Education Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan” badge.
