NEYYERZAMAN MEHDIQULU HATAMI

Neyyerzaman Hatami was born in 1916 in Iran. In 1936, she entered Tehran University, where she studied at the faculties of pedagogy and then philology. In 1946, she started her working career at Azerbaijan State University. She defended a PhD thesis in 1954, and obtained a ScD degree in 1968 and professorship in 1970. She was employed as a teacher, senior teacher, associate professor and professor at the Department of Persian Philology. During these years she wrote textbooks for secondary schools teaching Persian language. Neyyerzaman Hatami authored a number of valuable works on Persian colloquial language and Tehran dialect. In 1999, she published a two-volume Persian-Azerbaijani dictionary (60,000 words) in Tehran. She authored Persian language textbooks for first, second and third years higher school students.
She was the recipient of the title “Merited Scientist”. She supervised four PhD and one ScD student to completion.
