KHEYRI NESHAT AL-ABBASI

Kheyri Al-Abbasi was born on 21 January 1931 in the Iraqi city of Dohuk. In 1954, he entered the Pedagogical Institute.
From 1954-1959, he was employed as a teacher at secondary schools in Iraq. In 1963, he migrated to Soviet Azerbaijan, getting a political refugee status. From 1963-1966, he studied at Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan.
From 1966-1971, he studied at Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute, Faculty of Industry Planning, achieving a master`s degree.
In 1983, he defended a PhD thesis, and got a ScD degree in 2007. In 1967, Kheyri Al-AbbAsi took a teaching job at the Department of Arabic Philology, where he was promoted to a senior teacher in 1984, associate professor in 1989 and professor in 2012.
Kheyri Al-Abbasi`s research interests lie in theoretical issues, lexicology and dialectology of Arabic language.
He has published over 80 papers, two monographs and two handbooks. He has supervised two local and two foreign PhD students to completion.
