ANIYA ALIRZA ALAKBAROVA
(1923-2009)

Aniya Alakbarova was born on 23 October 1923. In 1940, she entered Azerbaijan State University, Faculty of Philology.
With the start of the World War Two she was conscripted into army, and was made part of the 29th women`s barrage balloon battalion in 1941. She continued her education after being demobilized due to health problems. She graduated with honors in 1947.
From 1948-1951, Aniya Alakbarova did her postgraduate studies and taught Persian language at the Department of Oriental Studies.
In 1962, she obtained a PhD, and was elected an associate professor at the Department of Languages of Near and Middle East Nations in 1968.
In 1998, she became a professor at the Department of Persian Philology. She authored more than 40 articles and theses, five textbooks and three books on Persian language.
She addressed a number of scientific conferences in Baku, Moscow, Dushanbe, Tashkent and other cities.
Professor Alakbarova received a number of certificates of recognition from the Ministry of Education and BSU.
